My Mimi Blouse

So here it is, my first Mimi Blouse. This is my first completed item from Love At First Stitch and I am so proud of it! I think it may just be the best sewing I have ever done. It has piping and everything!

I really enjoyed making it, the instructions were easy to follow and I learned some new techniques which is always good. The fabric I used is a cotton poplin so a little heavier than the recommendation but I'm happy with it. I'll probably try something lighter if I make it again.

I love the back, I think the gathers here are lovely. I am pleased I went to the effort of adding the piping because it breaks up the back nicely and highlights these gathers.

I have two small things that I would change if I could. I would prefer if it were a little more fitted around the waistline so I will probably mostly wear it with skirts or trousers with a high waist and tuck it in. Also the cuffs of the sleeves are a little tight so I will make them bigger next time.

I have already started making something else from Love At First Stitch and I can't want to share it! Zoe x

    1. Ooo, what are you going to make first? Its a tough choice because they are all nice patterns I think. Zoe x

    2. I know - it's a hard choice! I think I might go with the Delphine skirt, as it should hopefully not be too difficult... something to ease me into the clothes-making thing!

I've been reading your last post about the things you've learnt doing Me-Made-May, and you've mentioned a lot of things I've been thinking about. I want to make sure I make things I can wear a lot, and also make sure I make things in the fit and colour palette that I'll feel good wearing. I think the temptation can be to make something that appeals from a sewing point of view, but might actually not be something that you'd normally wear. Meaning your wardrobe could fill up with clothes you've put a lot of time and effort into, but actually you don't really want to wear them! I'm really trying to avoid that!
(Although I'm completely over-thinking things before I've even started!)

    3. I think the Delphine skirt is an excellent place to start. It the kind of thing you can make with only a small amount of experience on a sewing machine and actually want to wear it at the end.

I think its never to early to consider the style and colours your want to wear, just because you love a colour or fabric doesn't mean you will look good in it (the general you, I don't mean you personally of course). I am more of a 'plain bottom and patterned top' kind of person so maybe think about what you wear often already and work from there. It's not as exciting to make something in a useful colour like navy, white or black, but I think its a great place to start if you haven't settled on a colour palette yet. Then it would probably go with everything else you make so you will wear it lots. I would love to see what you make. Can you tweet/google+ me a picture when you are done? Good Luck. x

    4. This is weird - it's like you're in my head! I've been thinking exactly what you said - that a skirt in a plain "boring" colour would be better as I would be likely to wear it, as it's a lot easier to bring in the colour and pattern with the top, and that's what I usually wear. It may not be as fun, but it will be far more useful and I'll be happy if I'm wearing it! I'll show you when I make something! I noticed you said about preferring tops with fitted waists, and I think I'll be the same there. I see loads of patterns for lovely blouses, but they're quite loose fitted, and even though I love them on other people, I just have the feeling they won't look right on me, or that I just won't feel good in them. We'll see when I get to the tops - better focus on the skirt first!

And another thing... I was looking through your blog and spotted your blanket with the sudoku pattern - I did the same thing!! I thought I was the only weirdo to think of that! Here was my way: http://dinkidots.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/blanket-squares-get-random-look-sudoku.html

Oh, and I noticed in one of your posts that we have the same glass chopping board! Freaky...

    1. You definitely should, it is worth it even if you know how to sew already because the patterns are great. x
